Windows, Mac, Linux - What's your preference and why?
Submitted by ramblingsbymark.
Windows - I know it like the back of my hand, and I have absolutely nothing against it... but I'm tired of waiting for virus definitions to update every time I start up.
Linux - Free, open-source and safer; but sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get something running properly for a simple task when in Windows or OS X it would take me five or less, and I'm also not sure at the moment if I really want to get into etching a whole new interaction of operations in my brain.
Mac - FTW... I switch between this and Windows, but I prefer OS X over everything else because it's just darn prettier in more ways than one.
The free Kubuntu discs arrived shipit.kubuntu.org today, 10 in total; 8 'x86' discs and 2 of the 64-bit variation. I really only needed one, but I planned to do a little research experiment with the rest when I had a better idea of what to do.
I'm far from a Linux guru in any way. The most complex thing I've ever done in it is modify the boot loader by using the sudo command and an editor in 'terminal'. Beyond that, the Ubuntu Forum has been my savior (sorry Jesus) in my long walk down a dark path in the woods.
I'm opening this to friends; if anyone wants a cd from me, ask and I'll give you a copy to try out. It loads the Live cd first so you can try it out without modifying your hard drive and all, and gives you the option to install it after... So there's no harm if you want to opt-out :)
